More

More… who hasn’t asked for more? Whether that be more time, money, or even reading or traveling more, there is something innate in human nature contributing to our continual pursuit of more. You may have even had to click a “read more” link to access the rest of this post! As we approach the holiday season and new year, more seems to come to the forefront of many people as they plan their resolutions for the coming year.

Is the incessant search for more stemming from a dreamer mentality in which the sky is the limit or a perpetual climb? Or perhaps the movement of success or being able to provide more for the next generation than you had growing up. I don’t know the answer, but I hope you found some thought starters within those questions. But where does more finally intersect with enough? Is there ever enough?

“Nothing is enough for the man to whom enough is too little.”

-Epicurus

We live in a capitalistic society where we often feel that the more we have, the happier we will feel. That new car or gadget, newly found fame and notoriety, and more, more, more. But what happens when you take a step back? Can these things… objects; truly bring us happiness? And if so, how can people in undeveloped countries or people who are poor still be happy? Maybe the perceived correlation between money and happiness may not be as linear as expected. What if experiences and a life well-lived actually mean more to us?

Long story short, let’s not let our lives pass us by in our search for more, as the present is most likely just as much of a gift. Determine what you truly need to be happy instead of what you think you need. True happiness is within our grasp; we need to stop chasing it!
