So I Did A Thing…

There are a few professors that I have periodic contact with from both my undergrad and graduate programs. I may bounce ideas or pose questions to them, and in turn, they sometimes ask about course content, resources, etc. One of these professors reached out at the end of June with a potential teaching opportunity at their university for a marketing course concentrating on copywriting, design, and production. I had previously reached out a year prior, asking them for advice about pursuing an adjunct teaching position as something that I could do in conjunction with my regular job.

They remembered our conversation, and once I confirmed my interest, they quickly introduced me to the department chair. After sending in official application materials and transcripts, I had an interview the first week of July. They were on a heavy time crunch as school started back up at the end of August. I was offered and accepted the position to teach the course for their fall semester! While developing my course curriculum has required a great deal of effort, I have enjoyed every minute of it.

Those who know me know how much I enjoy learning new things and sharing my knowledge with others. Going back to school and completing my master’s was such a beneficial experience for me. The energy at Northwestern was infectious and continued to spur my curiosity in marketing. I adopted many course routines I liked and applied them to my class. Having taken courses online myself, I think I will be able to give my student’s a unique experience with a class developed online and not adapted from an in-person experience. I hope that I can share and cultivate a similar curiosity and response within my students as they work to begin their careers.
